4 Ways to Prepare Your Lawn for a Party Tent Rental

Admin • Mar 14, 2022

A party tent rental can completely transform your backyard to create a fun environment for parties, gatherings, and celebrations. Typically, the lawn you have will serve as the base for the party tent. Before the party tent arrives, you want to ensure your lawn is ready and will serve as an ideal base for the party.

Preparations are fairly simple and will help reduce any problems on the day of your event. Follow the guide to learn some tips and know exactly what to do before each event.

1. Pest Treatment

The last thing you want to worry about for your party is the presence of uninvited guests. Ants, bugs, and wasps can all create problems, especially when they appear inside a tented area. A couple of weeks before your event, treat the lawn area with pest removal products.

The products range in different styles, all with the same goal of keeping insects off your property. Choose a spray option for easy application. An insect sprayer connects directly to a hose and mixes with water to treat the grass as it soaks into the soil underneath. The spray will help kill off any insect larvae that live within the grass.

You also have the option to use insect lawn granules on the lawn. The granules are small and about the size of grass seeds. You can fill a grass seeder with the granules and push it around the lawn. The granules will go into the soil and help keep pests away from the lawn. Use the treatment a few weeks before the event for the best effectiveness.

2. Mole Holes & Divots

If your lawn has moles, then you know the problems that can come when the small creatures create tunnels and burrow in the dirt. You do not want party guests to trip and fall on tunnels and loose soil. Perform an inspection walk on the lawn area where the tent will be over. If you find any mole paths, walk over the paths to push the dirt down and flatten the area.

Use a shovel for deeper areas and ensure there are not any divots or major gaps on the lawn. Use soil or mulch to fill in any major gaps you discover. If you rent chairs or tables with the party tent, then you do not want the legs to fall into the mole holes. Moles may be active during the early morning when the soil is cool, so check again just before a tent is delivered.

3. Proper Lawn Care

One of the easiest things to do before a party tent arrives is to mow the lawn so the grass is cut and trimmed. Ideally, you should cut the grass around two days before the event so the grass doesn't grow back too much. Use a rake to get any excess trimmings the lawnmower did not capture.

Also use a rake to pick up extra items like rocks, sticks, and weeds that stick out. You will be left with a clean and flat lawn.

4. Morning Dew Removal

On the morning of the tent arrival, your lawn could have a layer of morning dew. You do not want the excess moisture to get on people's shoes or become a problem during your event. Once the tent is put up, sunlight may not properly dry out the dew. Before the tent arrives, you can help dry your lawn and remove excess dew.

One method is to spread a long hose out over the lawn. Put a person on each end of the hose and put the hose tight. Drag the hose across the top of the lawn and the hose will pull the morning dew with it. Drag the hose out far enough away from the party tent area. A method like this is often used on golf courses to clear dew away from fairways and greens.

Along with the hose method, you could sprinkle some sand or clay over the lawn to soak up excess moisture.
